About
the Help Files
RapidReader for the Mac OS X platform has the same features
and functionality as RapidReader on other platforms. However
the methods of calling a particular function will vary from
platform to platform. In this beta version there are some inconsistencies
in the help files and tutorial included with the product with
regard to Mac implementation. The help files are being updated
to create a Mac specific information source. To find the most
recent information please access the Mac
Users item on help files from the www.TextVision.net
web site. They will be updated regularly prior to their inclusion
in the final commercial release. Among
the differences between the Windows and Mac platforms are
the ways in which add-ins to programs are handled. For instance,
in OS X the RapidReader integration into the Safari browser
is accomplished using the "Services" item on the
Safari menu bar. To call RapidReader to read a web page, you
select text within the web page then click
on "Safari / Services / RapidRead Selection".
This is fairly standard for Mac OS X integration. However,
in MS Word for Mac you will see a RapidReader item that was
placed directly on the toolbar during installation. You can
click directly on this item and the entire document will be
opened in RapidReader.
Currently "drag and
drop" is implemented for text files. By dragging
a text file onto the RapidReader Desktop Icon the file will
be opened in RapidReader.
Perhaps the most significant difference
has to do with the installation of a desktop icon for RapidReader.
For Mac OS X, the user will need to create an alias
for RapidReader from the applications folder and place it
on the desktop for immediate availability to open files using
drag and drop or to open text from the clipboard. Once the
alias is created then the RapidReader functionality is readily
available rather than having to launch from the applications
folder.
Below
are some instructions for downloading the software, installing,
creating the RapidReader Alias and getting started.
We look forward to hearing
from you. So, please use the "Send Comments" tab

Again, thanks for your
